When FDR was asked where the flyers on the Doolittle Raid to bomb Toyko (April 18, 1942) took off from, he replied, with some amusement, that they were based in Shangri-La, a fantasy location if ever there was one. In those days reporters had a sense of humor and didn’t press when national security was really at stake. Now hard to find. 27×20 near mint, conservation backed.
