Description
Sawickewski: Join the Army – Weapons of the Homeland 1920. Portrait of Jozef Haller von Hallenburg (1873-1960), a Lt. General in the Polish Army which was organized in France in 1918. He arrived in Warsaw in 1919 with six infantry divisions with Allied directives to operate against the Red Army which he didn’t do right away. Instead his divisions engaged the Ukrainian Galician Army in combat during May through July of that year. He succeeded in pushing it out of Galicia and into central Ukraine. For this he was promoted to full General and continued to hold top positions in the Polish Army until 1926 when Marshal Pilsudski seized control of the Polish government. 42×29 mint, conservation backed.
