Oswald Weise A Book Gives Joy and Comfort 1914. A beautiful early German poster features a young woman in a sumptuously rendered velvet, reading to a wounded soldier. The Germans government mobilized books as well as men and promoted literature for soldiers. The poster also emphasizes the solicitous care accorded the wounded. Previously owned by a sophisticated librarian. New to us, very rare. 25×37 near mint.,conservation backed.
