L. A. Shafer U.S. Marines, First to Fight for Democracy 1917. Natty Marine naval battery is pictured zeroing in on a Zeppelin. These new aerial weapons raided the British seacoast in 1915 causing many civilian deaths. Attacks on women and children were then regarded as beyond the acceptable boundaries of war. Scarce. 40×28 near mint, conservation backed.
