Rumcke Help Them Start Again. c. 1918. Although encumbered by a full pack and his rifle, a doughboy still finds the strength to support and comfort a young woman and child who collapse in his arms. Around them a shattered French village is testimony to the violence that caused their desperate plight. This poster was printed for the Methodist Centenary. According to their logo which appears in the poster’s lower left corner, the Methodists had tasked themselves with “rebuilding the world.” Good luck with that. 33×23 near mint, conservation backed.
