Paus: Patriotic Victor Records c.1918. This unusual mixture of patriotism and commercialism shows a soldier and sailor standing side by side against a backdrop teeming with wartime preparations. These include the manufacture of ambulances and supply trucks. Factories belch thick, acrid smoke and a shipyard with newly manufactured merchant ships on the ways. Almost as an afterthought, the artist has included a lone biplane flying high above the din caused by this densely packed panorama of near frantic industrial activity. Very very rare. 30×20 near mint, conservation backed.
