Description

Barbara Marks This Is the Enemy 1943.  Nazi bayonet plunges through a bible whose crimson bookmark now serves as a stream of blood. The poster represents the Nazi attack on Judeo-Christian values.  This hard sell, designed by a California art student, worked well; it won the Artists for Victory contest sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art. Very few of the winning designs from the contest were issued as posters. 28×20 near mint, conservation backed; 40×28 near mint, conservation backed $500.
