Description
Ralph Iligan Industry – the Arsenal of Democracy – Defense of the Sea Begins on the Shore 1942. In a vision right out of Admiral Horatio Nelson’s day, Iligan portrays a young quartermaster taking the ship’s wooden wheel whose binnacle is just barely visible in the smoke issuing from the modern industrial scene sprawling across the poster’s lower border. This includes a ship being repaired in drydock and another loading cargo. To his right an old battlewagon, circa 1930s, heads straight for the viewer under a canopy of two engine flying boats which provide top cover. Privately issued by the American Association of Manufacturers, therefore scarce. 20×15 near mint, conservation backed.
