Description
Erdt, Hans Rudi Fliers Over the Sea 1915. German naval pilot framed by his biplane’s wing struts salutes another biplane flying across a freighter’s bow. Naval biplanes were catapulted from ships to scout the skies around the fleet. They were recovered with specially built cranes. The High Seas Fleet saw little service in World War I making this great image by one of Germany’s great artists very rare. 37×55 near mint, conservation backed.
