Keynon Cox The Sword is Drawn – the Navy Upholds It! 1916. Holding a scroll that reads: Beautiful image of Columbia, personification of the United States, wearing the laurel wreath of victorious warriors; definitely dressed for success. The majestic figure holds a scroll emblazoned “We can do no otherwise” in one hand and a drawn sword in the other, ready to lead the way once war is declared. Cox was an important artist and influential founder of the Art Students League in New York. 42×28 near mint, conservation backed.
