Description

Anon: The Five Sullivan Brothers 1942. Poster features tragic brothers lost when their ship, the light cruiser USS Juneau, was torpedoed off Guadalcanal. More than 700 officers and men were killed in the tragedy, including these five young Irish-Americans from a close-knit Iowa family.  After the Japanese killed one of their friends in the navy, the brothers decided to enlist but only if they could serve together. The navy bent the regulations that kept family members apart; pictures of the Sullivans appeared nationwide as examples of patriotism. Their deaths shocked the nation; the navy tightened regulations to made sure it would never happen again. Now quite scarce. 40×30 near mint, conservation backed.
