Description

Adolph Treidler “Buddies” c. 1919. Artist pictures an insouciant Uncle Sam urging veteran ‘buddies’ to join an American Legion post. Although he follows the famous outfit James Montgomery Flagg concocted for Uncle Sam, Treidler doesn’t follow Flagg’s commanding stern prototype. “Buddies” features a relaxed Uncle Sam expressing pride in the American Legion and the logo he drapes his hand over. He too is a veteran’s welcoming ‘buddy.’ Extremely rare, not in Library of Congress. 40×30 near mint, conservation backed.
