Text reads: America’s World War II began August 7, 1942, when the First Marine Division, reinforced, landed at Guadalcanal. Through rivers, swamps and steaming jungle the rugged, resolute Marines fought on until this first great stepping-stone to Japan was won. Due to the shortage of Garrands, most Marines arrived in Guadalcanal with Springfield .03 rifles. Scarce.  The Springfield was used as a sniper ‘s weapon accurate at 400 to 1000 yards. 40×28 near mint, conservation backed.
