Freeman The Rescue of Ensign John R. Galvin by the USS Harder and crew 1989. U.S. Naval Institute print. On April 1, 1944 Galvin’s fighter went down after a strike on a tiny island west of Woleai. He was rescued by the crew of the USS Harder despite heavy surf and Japanese snipers still on the island. Two corsairs provided top cover while a navy seaplane waited on the water to assist. 13×19 mint.
